Meeting Minutes

MARTIN AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Minutes of the Thursday, January 19 meeting.

 

President Richard Bair called the meeting & Luncheon to order at Martin Livestock Auction with 17 members present.

Secretary minutes and Treasurer’s report were read and approved.

Bills to Tim Huether $133.15 parade trophies and Security First Bank $23.60 stamp were approved for payment.

Old Business:

Belinda gave an update on the School activities.

Jean Kirk reported on the City activities and Rolf Kraft updated members on County activities and also the Hospitals critical financial situation.

Rolf also asked for anyone interested in placing items in the Centennial Time Capsule to get them gathered up.  A meeting will be scheduled to get this organized.

Golden West grants have not reorganized yet but will contact Richard and Tim when it becomes available.

Richard read a thank you from the Legion for choosing them as the place for the Chili supper.  He also thanked all who attend the December Christmas Social and supported him throughout is 2 yrs. as Chamber President.

A standing ovation was given for Richard for the excellent job he has done as president.

A slate of Officers for 2012 was presented and a unanimous vote was cast.

New Business:

Richard mentioned there is an attorney interested in setting up an office in Martin & he is looking for rentable space & funding.  Rolf said there is also a man from Sioux Falls interested in moving here.  Funds from West River Foundation may be available.

A motion was made by Tim Huether to adjourn the meeting. Motion approved.

The next meeting in February will be announced at a later time.

Becoming involved with the Chamber and community events is a very inexpensive way to advertise. The exposure you gain is second to none. Monthly and seasonal promotions are planned to encourage visitors to shop Martin.

 

Some of the Chamber’s annual activities include: City Wide Cleanup, Community Rummage Sale, Customer Appreciation Day, 4th of July Celebration at the Park, Fair BBQ, Car Show and Parade, Football Tailgate Party, Halloween Movie and Trick-or-Treating, Turkey Giveaway and Chili Supper, Parade of Trees, Parade of Lights, Craft Fair and Santa Visits.
